Mazovia Development Forum

The debate “Mental health of children and young people: a plan for Mazovia”

Commissioned by the Mazovian Unit for the Implementation of EU Programmes, I prepared and moderated this debate at the 12th Mazovia Development Forum on December 7, 2022, at the Legia Warsaw Conference Center. This time I was not one of the panelists; I prepared the debate and ran it. The panel:

  • Elżbieta Lanc, member of the Management Board of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship;
  • Anna Depukat, MD, PhD, from the pilot office of the National Mental Health Protection Program;
  • Michał Stelmański, president of the Mazovian Neuropsychiatry Center in Zagórze;
  • Lidia Popek, MD, PhD, regional consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry;
  • Maria Radziwoń-Zaleska, MD, PhD, regional consultant in psychiatry;
  • Tomasz Rowiński, PhD, from EZRA UKSW.

What came out of it? That a child cannot be treated in isolation from the family, and that treatment has to happen as close to home as possible. Mazovia then had 80 of its 91 planned first-level centers, but lacked day wards. We also talked about the stigma that blocks treatment in small towns, about school prevention that will not work without health, education and local government working together, and about parents who do not know where to go.

The recording is on YouTube: Mental health of children and young people: a plan for Mazovia. What the panelists said and what came out of it is in my post on child and youth mental health in Mazovia.

Moderating debates

I know debates on young people’s mental health from both sides of the table. I was a panelist at Campus Polska Przyszłości and at the Economic Forum in Karpacz. Looking for a moderator or a speaker? See my talks.
